Entry FormsThanks to all who completed the syllabus survey. There were requests to have more information about what is going in the society and about demonstrators, so welcome to the first monthly newsletter.
A significant number of people asked for groups with more learning opportunities, so we now have two taught courses.
Drawing on a Monday Evening and Acrylics on a Wednesday evening.
If you would like to join either, please contact me.
The next drawing course starts on Monday 3rd March with James Douglas.
The next Acrylics Course with Nick Kowalski starts on Wednesday 5th March at 7.30pm, there is a charge of £6.00 plus tea money.
To ensure that everyone gets a chance to attend and that there are places for potential new members, there will be a waiting list.
New members and potential members get priority, then members who have not attended before and then those that have been attending.
This seems to be the fairest way forward.
Graham Berry will be running a more structured group on Tuesday mornings covering all areas and for all abilities. Watercolour and drawing will be given a bit of a priority, and absolute beginners are welcome.
Thursday afternoon will see a new group for Explorers of Art.
The group will lead itself in discovering some of the areas people have asked for. As a group we will discover together what can be achieved. The subject area for the first few weeks will be collage, other areas that have been asked for are art journaling and mono printing. This will be an open group, and anyone can suggest an area to explore and join the group at any time. If you are interested, please contact me.
People also asked for opportunities to get more help from other members so Friday morning will become Finish up Fridays. Come along with a work and your gear and see if others can help or just have some quieter time to work alone. There is no guarantee who will be attending to help.
Club nights have not been as popular as they once were, so they are being handed over to you as individuals or groups.
They can be anything vaguely art related, they can be for fun or be more serious. They are your opportunity to shine.
Please discuss it in your groups. A group could commit to doing one every 6 months or an individual could commit to running one or a series around a theme.
Some suggestions have been around activities to free the imagination or change ways of doing things just to see what happens, to give talks about favourite pieces or discussions about a topic.
I will coordinate and advertise but it really is over to you. Send idea using the contact form below.
Some people would like to have appraisals on the last Thursday every month. This could prove difficult due to lack of appraisers.
Brian Healy will be with us on Thursday April 24th at 7.30pm
Nick Kowalski is going to do a surgery where people bring an unfinished piece and their gear on Saturday 31st May from 2pm. He will talk with individuals or small groups if there are several people working on a similar subject.
There is no one booked for June. Is anyone interested in a member led discussion of work, either completed or not?
Learning how to assess a piece of work can help with our own development as artists. Kindness will, of course, be obligatory.
Volunteers please contact me.
In order to make the syllabus a little more reactive to what people want I am going to produce four each year. Spring, summer autumn and winter.
This will allow me to get an up-to-date idea of what people want without having to be working up 9 months in advance. The new syllabus will be out for the AGM.
Where possible the website will show examples of the artist’s work Workshops, normally just run in the winter, will be up for discussion at the next syllabus meeting on14th April at the Studio at 1pm. All welcome
